This August visitors to the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu can take part in a range of Creative Fun summer activities inspired by the Keep CALM and STEAM Ahead project.

The two-year project has involved researching and cataloguing technical material in the Motoring Reference Library and Object Collection and inspired the development of a range of fun, creative educational and outreach activities to explore these magical mechanisms.

Supported by the Arts Council England Designation Development Fund and sponsored by the Shell Heritage Art Collection and Caravan and Motorhome Club, the Creative Fun sessions will take place in the museum on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from August 1st – 24th, from 11am – 3pm.

Young visitors can explore the theme of Automotive Steampunk and discover more about the vehicles when they use the special family trail in the museum. They can draw inspiration from those exhibits to build their own Steampunk LEGO vehicle, use the collection’s magical mechanisms to design a Steampunk-style Shell poster or create a flip book of a car to find out how cars are constructed. Families can also design their own Steampunk caravan and build a tunnel book of a famous Victorian caravan.

Participants can enter their fabulous creations into the Creative Fun Competition to win great prizes from Shell Heritage Art Collection and the National Motor Museum.

The prizes also include four limited edition brick custom mini-kits of the record-breaking LEGO caravan which is on display in the museum. The life-size LEGO caravan, which holds the Guinness World Record as the ‘largest caravan built with interlocking plastic bricks’, was commissioned by Freedom to Go. The leisure vehicle and park industry campaign was launched to raise awareness of the lifestyle benefits leisure vehicle ownership offers – see www.freedomtogo.co.uk for more information.

Creative Fun activities are included in the standard Beaulieu admission ticket, which includes entrance to the National Motor Museum, World of Top GearOn Screen Cars, Palace House, Beaulieu Abbey and the picturesque grounds and gardens.
